Child Safety & Ethics Pledge
Last Updated & Effective: May 19, 2026
1. Our Mission & Ethical Philosophy
At Cognito Parental Control, we firmly believe that healthy digital habits, online safety, and responsible screen time management begin with open family dialog and mutual trust, rather than secret surveillance.
We engineered Cognito not as an instrument of covert espionage or suspicion, but as an empowering, transparent safeguard designed to help parents guide their children through an increasingly complex digital world. Our core philosophy centers on the absolute conviction that children have a fundamental right to understand how and why their digital activities are being guided.
2. Mandatory Transparency (The Anti-Stealth Pledge)
Unlike intrusive, unethical spyware or stalkerware applications that actively hide deep within a device’s operating system to monitor users without their knowledge, Cognito operates with uncompromising, mandatory transparency.
Persistent Notification Guarantee
The Cognito Android IoT Client is intentionally designed to maintain a friendly, visible, and persistent notification on the child's device at all times while the monitoring service is active. We do not provide, nor will we ever develop, a "stealth mode" or "hidden icon" feature. This ensures your child is always fully aware of the active parental connection, encouraging constructive conversations about digital boundaries and screen time habits.
3. Parental Responsibility & Open Communication
We view technology as a powerful supplement to, not a replacement for, active and engaged parenting. We strongly encourage all parents and legal guardians using Cognito to:
- Have the Conversation: Openly discuss the installation of Cognito with your child. Explain that the dashboard is there to help them balance their screen time, protect them from digital addiction, and ensure their online safety.
- Establish Clear Boundaries: Set mutually agreed-upon screen time limits and app usage rules together as a family.
- Respect Evolving Maturity: As children grow older and demonstrate responsible digital citizenship, adapt your monitoring settings to grant them increasing digital autonomy.
4. Child Welfare & Law Enforcement Cooperation
Cognito maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding child exploitation, abuse, or endangerment. In the event that our security team detects or is alerted to suspected illegal child exploitation activities, we commit to fully cooperating with verified law enforcement agencies, cybercrime divisions, and international child protection organizations (e.g., NCMEC) in strict accordance with applicable laws.
5. Continuous Ethical Engineering & Audits
To ensure our software continuously aligns with our ethical pledges and privacy standards, Cognito conducts regular internal ethics reviews and third-party security audits. We remain dedicated to setting the benchmark for responsible, transparent, and secure parental control technology worldwide.
